ShipIn Raises $52M to Scale the AI Operating System for Commercial Shipping

The physical economy is being instrumented. Trucking, factories, warehouses, and energy infrastructure have all acquired sensing, telemetry, and machine intelligence over the past decade. Commercial shipping, the industry that moves more than 90% of global trade, has not. We believe ShipIn is closing that gap.

When we first invested, co-leading the pre-Seed and Seed rounds, ShipIn was being tested on a handful of vessels across three fleets. Today the platform operates across 92 shipowners, with thousands of ships in their fleets, making it one of the largest AI deployments in commercial shipping worldwide.

We’re thrilled to announce that ShipIn has raised a $52M Series B, welcoming Proofpoint Capital, Bling Ventures, HighSage Ventures, and Tokio Marine as new investors, alongside continued support from Framework Venture Partners, Zeev Ventures, Hyperplane, Munich Re, and Atinc. Matt Wallach, Co-founder of Proofpoint Capital and Co-founder of Veeva Systems (NYSE: VEEV), joined the Board of Directors.

The largest blind spot in the physical economy

Our original thesis on ShipIn was part of our broader view about the physical economy. Over the past decade, industries built around expensive physical assets have progressively acquired a data layer and then an intelligence layer, as connected sensing has changed trucking, software has transformed the factory floor, and warehouses, energy infrastructure, and industrial equipment have increasingly become observable in real time.

Commercial shipping had many of the same ingredients: enormously valuable assets, complex operations, significant safety and financial risk, and thousands of people making consequential decisions every day. What it lacked was visibility, and so ships remained floating factories operating as black boxes. We believed that whoever solved that problem at the sensing layer would have the opportunity to build something much larger on top of it — the intelligence layer connecting ship and shore, and eventually the operating system through which fleets understand and manage their operations.

ShipIn’s founding team made that possibility credible. Founder and CEO Osher Perry brought firsthand experience as a former Chief Officer on the largest vessel in the Israeli Navy, paired with a team capable of solving difficult computer vision and edge computing problems in an environment very different from a warehouse or a factory. Connectivity at sea is intermittent and expensive, there is no IT department onboard, hardware has to withstand salt, heat, vibration, and years of continuous operation, and crews rotate constantly, which means systems have to work without demanding attention from the people running the vessel. ShipIn was built for those constraints from day one.

From a few ships to the largest AI deployment in commercial shipping

The progress since our initial investment has been remarkable. FleetVision now runs across 92 shipowners with thousands of ships in their fleets, spanning dry bulk, tankers, containers, offshore vessels, and specialty operators, with customers including Rio Tinto, Scorpio Tankers, Hafnia, Matson, Stealth Maritime, Tidewater, Swire Shipping, Chembulk, and UltraTug.

Those deployment numbers matter because putting software on a ship is not a matter of turning on another SaaS subscription. It involves physical installation, it touches crew workflows and safety practices, it raises real questions around connectivity, privacy, and data governance, and it has to earn the trust of both the people onboard and the operators responsible for an entire fleet ashore. ShipIn has done that repeatedly, and customers who start with a handful of vessels consistently expand to fleet-wide coverage. That progression, from experiment to deployment to fleet-wide infrastructure, is one of the strongest signals in the ShipIn story.

A maritime foundation model, not AI added to maritime software

There is an important distinction between adding an AI feature to an existing piece of software and building an AI-native system for the physical world, and ShipIn has done the latter. FleetVision™ connects onboard cameras, vessel systems, sensors, and enterprise platforms, with the intelligence running at the edge on the vessel itself. The system processes roughly 10,000 hours of video per vessel each month, translating raw footage into operational events while vessels are underway, putting alerts in front of officers onboard in under 45 seconds and giving shore teams a shared operational picture across the fleet.

Over time, the underlying intelligence has become dramatically more capable. Rather than hand-building detectors one at a time, ShipIn rebuilt its AI infrastructure around a unified maritime foundation model with specialized detection heads, so capabilities that once took months to develop can now be introduced in roughly two weeks. Fourteen detectors are live today across six categories: cargo operations, safety, leak detection, change detection, working aloft, and privacy-preserving face blurring.

Increasingly, the system is also moving beyond observation. Autonomous agents now monitor vessels and resolve certain issues on their own, compressing mean time to resolution from days to minutes, and self-assembling analytics and a fleet copilot move the experience away from another dashboard to interpret and toward a far more useful question: what needs attention today. That shift is central to how we think about ShipIn’s future. The valuable system is not the one that records what happened onboard but the one that understands what is happening, helps operators decide what to do next, and, where appropriate, can take bounded action that a human has authorized. That begins to look less like a computer vision product and much more like an operating system.

Osher and his team understand the complexities of fleet management and ship operations, and they have the passion and the clarity to build a safer maritime world. The new capital accelerates global expansion, deepens ShipIn’s AI capabilities, expands product development, strengthens partnerships across the maritime ecosystem, and continues investing in the company’s IP portfolio.
